SELECTED WORKS

MONUMENTAL METAL

CLIENT: Mejiro Kindergarten; Wada Minoru Gakuen

LOCATION: Tokyo, Japan

MATERIAL: 3000 stainless steel letters, punched aluminum panels (20 x 30 meters)

OUTLINE: The redesign and build of one of Tokyo’s longest running early education systems Wada Minoru Gakuen (Mejiro Institute of Education and Child Development), A new learning institution for both educators and children in Mejiro, Tokyo’s prestigious Ivy League  academic district. I worked with architect and respected material specialist Mr. Suguru Koda who designed the building to create an artwork on the public facing facade which also was in the path of Tokyo’s most populated train line, The Yamanote Line. This would also be the first visible building when exiting the Mejiro Station.

OUTCOME: I transformed one of my photographs in to the worlds largest three dimensional ASCII art. Within the text characters that composed the image were messages about education in both English and Japanese. These messages would “project” onto the corridors of the five story building throughout the day and change with the seasons, depending on the position of the sun. The exterior would be a puzzle to discover words and messages within the monumental five story image. This was an effort to make a permanent artwork with transient qualities that would never get boring.

BONDI RESCUE

CLIENT: The Eastern Hotel, Westfield Bondi Junction

LOCATION: Sydney, Australia

OUTLINE: The Eastern Hotel just finished a $24 million dollar renovation project renewing the 4 floors of the building in to 4 distinct dining operations, one on each floor. After 6 months, only 1 of the 4 restaurants in the venue was proving to be successful. The other 3 restaurants were costing the company over $500,000 a month in losses. The client needed a solution fast to avoid going into closure.

OUTCOME: A major rebrand of the first and second floor dining operations in to one of Sydney’s go-to place for American style burgers with an Australian slant. The Goodtime brand was created and infused with surf influences and cheeky language that matched the targeted Australian demographic. The rebranding effort  included iconic brand imagery & slogans, photogenic interiors, successful viral advertising campaigns, local contests and competitions. The viral ad was publicized  in 8 countries and 5 languages across multiple mass media channels.
